This has been a
terrific week for cricket at Elizabeth College and the First eleven
in particular.
On
Saturday June 21st
the First Eleven beat Argyll`s in a Championship game, the
highlight being 152 not out from Tim Ravenscroft
On
Sunday June 22nd,
many of our boys were involved in the Under 17 Inter-Insular.
Guernsey scored 259, of which Jonny Clark scored 95 before bowling
Jersey out for just 90
In the annual Twenty20 match
against the OEA, College’s total of 194 proved too much for our
former pupils who lost by 25 runs.
Our home fixture against
Victoria had been rearranged to 24th June. It resulted in a 4 wicket
win.
Adam Robin took 5 for 39 and Tim
Ravenscroft anchored our reply with an unbeaten 85.
The Second XI were also
victorious with James Ferbrache’s 4 for 9 helping them to a 7 wicket
win.
On
Thursday June 26th
the MCC were beaten for the first time since 1989. In reply
to 215-4, Elizabeth scored 216-7 with Will Thompson scoring 76.
A brilliant week!

CCF |

The CCF provided the Guard for The
Queen’s Birthday Parade at Castle Cornet on Saturday 14th June,
commanded by Sub Lieutenant Tim Slann RNR.
Despite the rigours of exams and other
‘distractions’ there was a full turn out from each Section and the
Year 10 Cadets performed very well under the tuition of the NCOs,
Corporals Nicolas Ozanne, Matthew Hale, and Barnabus Williams.
Field Day
was held on Friday 6th June at Fort Le Marchant in glorious weather
and provided an excellent release of pressure at the end of exam
week. A wide range of activities was programmed with the aim of
completing all of the requirements for Annual Camp at Penhale,
Cornwall.
The high numbers entering the recruit
Section next year means that we shall again revert to four Section
named after famous OEs – Brock, De Sausmarez, Le Cheminat and Le
Marchant. |

Ten Tors |
|
The 35 mile Bronze
team rose to the challenge of the Dartmoor Ten Tors event and
enjoyed hot, sunny conditions. This made the overnight camp at
Black Tor a relaxing and restful occasion, and swelled the crowds
at the finish to the 1000 + level. A stirring, even emotional
moment after giving their all!
It was good to
meet two OEs, Lt Col James Porter and Maj JP Quertier. Both are
closely involved with running the Ten Tors Challenge, the largest
youth event in the South West.

Public Schools’
Fencing Championships |
|
The
College team performed fantastically in the Championships held in
Nottingham. The College emerged first in both Foil and Epée, placing
second in Sabre. Across the weapons, they were first in both the
Mount-Haes (years 8–9) and senior groups, placing second in the
juniors. The cumulative result was the largest win for a boys’
school in the history of the Championships, which began way back in
1890.
