How do we mark you in PE?

In practical subjects it is sometimes difficult to understand how we arrive at your grade.

This will help you understand and hopefully encourage you towards the highest levels of achievement.

We look at these four areas:

  1. acquiring and developing skills – this is how well you perform the skills that you learn for each sport.

  1. Selecting and applying skills- this is how you use these skills; for example within a game.

  1. Evaluating and improving performance – this is how well you can look at how you are performing and suggest ways of improving.

  1. Knowledge and understanding of fitness and health – do you know how to warm-up? Or how exercise affects your fitness and health?

What are the Level descriptions?

The way we calculate your mark is by using Level descriptions. These measure the knowledge, skills and understanding that you develop during the year.

Each year you are expected to achieve a particular level. We then mark your attainment grade according to this, therefore

1 or A  – You are working above the expected level in three or all

        four areas.

2 or B – You are working above the expected level in one or two

       areas.

3 or C – You are working at the expected level in three or all four areas.

4 or D – You are working below the expected level in two or more of the

       areas.

How do I know what the expected level is?

Learning Outcomes – At the start of each lesson your teacher will tell you what you are expected to achieved or learned by the end of the lesson.

At the end of the lesson you will know if you have achieved this, exceeded this or need more time to develop this.

However remember the assessment isn’t made until the end of that activity so the mark awarded is on how you are performing throughout the half-term.

So, what is the expected level in each year?
